Peninsula House - A House as a Container of Human Activity

The ability to manipulate the space by opening or closing the shutters creates the opportunity for varied use through the aligned transition of function from an open, airy, outdoor area to an enclosed and protected inner space. "The interplay of the occupant between these two elements activates the simple form of the building (by the opening and closing of the façade) and transforms it into an organic domain", (Sean Godsell Architects, n.d)

The Peninsula House plan is based around the traditional Japanese architectural notions of Moya(inner room) & Hisashi(outer room). The living spaces form the outer area whereas, the sleeping room (an inner room) is accessed seperately by a private stair.
